Bird's eye view of the island of Tubuai, located 643 kl on the South of Tahiti. Tubuai's population of 2049 enjoys a cool, subtropical climate and has a land that is fertile for farming, to such and extent that Tubuai has become the garden of French Polynesia. On their island of 48 square kilometers, the farmers of Tubuai produce large quantities of potatoes, onions, tomatoes and cabbage, destined for the markets of Tahiti. An extensive lagoon area protects the island against the mighty waves of the ocean. The village Mataura is the principal town of the Austral.
