Maiao is a small island situated at 120 km from the Ouest of the island of Tahiti, the island is fully integrated into the Municipality of Moorea. A lagoon which has been almost entirely filled in forms two small lakes encircleng the remains of a former volcano, culminated at 154 m. Fishing and copra alow its 283 inhabitants to live, but the main source of revenue of Maiao is producing of woven pandanus roofing material.
